In 2013 multi-media artist and animator Ivy Flores mounted an installation at California Institute of the Arts. Yugen Duo was requested to perform, improvising to create a live soundtrack for the opening of the exhibition. Animation created by the artist was projected simultaneously with four projectors onto a dome like structure of scrim strips suspended from fourteen feet above the floor dangling down within inches of the floor at the outer edge of the structure. Audience members were invited to wander freely, into the center of the structure where they were surrounded by the projections or walking between the hanging strips to the perimeter of the structure for an alternate view. Working from the prerecorded track composed by Alex Wand the soundscape presented here is a result of the moment improvised within the environment during the exhibition. The accompanying photographs exaggerate the level of light that was actually in the exhibition space. The only light was from the projectors with Yugen Duo positioned behind the scrim strips and the audio speakers hidden on opposite sides of the room. Audience members only encountered the musicians by chance.
